Bald Head Island
Bald Head Island
Bald Head Island, North Carolina, is a unique, car-free barrier island known for its natural beauty and commitment to conservation. Accessible only by ferry, it features pristine beaches, a maritime forest, and extensive salt marshes, all while preserving a slower pace of life. The island is also home to Old Baldy, the oldest lighthouse in North Carolina, and is a significant loggerhead sea turtle nesting site.
The last two summers we have been fortunate to spend a few days in June with some amazing friends at a house on the beach. It’s so quiet, so peaceful and just the perfect escape from the loud and noisy reality of life. And the sunsets! Unreal. You do have to plan the trip, book a ferry to get here and bring your food, chairs, beach stuff, etc but its worth it. Not to mention fun times driving around the island in a golf cart!
