I am super excited to partner with Fairview Garden Center, one of the largest retail locally owned garden centers in the Raleigh area (celebrating 47 years in business)! No matter the size of your landscaping project, they have the products, services and resources you will need for all your gardening goals. The garden center is expansive with 62,000 square feet of greenhouse space and several acres of trees, shrubs, and perennials. It’s organized really well and easy to find whatever you are looking for (there’s also a cool map!).

PORCH + PATIO REFRESH GOALS

I’ve had a patio potted garden for about 10 years now and every year I’ve wanted to give it a refresh/makeover but it always seemed to end up overwhelming to me where to start and what to buy so getting an opportunity to work with the team at Fairview Garden Center was not only fun but very informative and helped me FINALLY accomplish this backyard potted garden goal of mine! I wanted to minimize the pots and maximize the plants with flowers/plants that attracted bees, butterflies and other pollinators and keep the deer and rabbits from eating all of them! Fairview Garden staff pointed me to the exact plants that would accomplish this. Also, the garden center had helpful signage and was organized in a way to easily find just the right unique mix of plants and pots!

FILLER, SPILLER, THRILLER

The team at Fairview taught me three helpful things to keep in mind when building layered planted pots. Choosing just the right mix of plants that ‘spillover’ the pot, the right filler plants to give it color and texture and then choosing the ‘thriller’ plant that adds height and eye catching detail! It was so simple and so helpful to break it down like that.

My sister tagged along (she is a plant person!) and we spent three hours in the garden center on a gloriously sunny day, choosing pots and plants. It was a lot of fun to do together.

We brought everything home including a couple bags of good soil and went to work in the cooler evening hours. I am thrilled with how the pots turned out! I also added a couple of new pots and plants to the front door that I absolutely love.

Now I am enjoying going out and watering them and watching them grow and we love our patio space/backyard even more. I really appreciate the helpfulness and the amazing variety of plants we had to choose from. Everything was so healthy and well stocked. It was fun to meet Jo Ann Dewar who started the garden center back in the 70’s who still spends a lot of her days in the greenhouses and growing the plants. A true family business experience!

Thank you Heather and the team from Fairview for your helpfulness and allowing me to finally achieve some garden success!
